The Short Bio

I'm Jake, an artist and producer from Idaho that wants to change the world for the better. I've been working on that for a while now, finding musical influences as wide as Taylor Swift, Mac Miller, The Glitch Mob, and Polyphia, and I hope to put all that together into a musical mosaic of sorts

For the creators, I'm sharing all kinds of advice I've picked up along the way - keep an eye out for tutorials, beat battles and support streams, and hopefully some inspiration to make something cool

The Long Bio

I was six years old when I wrote my first song, and it's all downhill from there. Music runs deep on my mom's side of the family and she tried to teach me piano - all I can remember was getting bored and walking away, and my current keyboard wishes I paid more attention. Later on, one of my best friends let me try his Squier electric guitar. I think he showed me how to play Iron Man and it blew my mind - that was it, my fate was sealed in a small apartment in 2007. We found a used classical guitar at a pawn shop soon after, and songwriting has been a priority in my life since

Fast forward to high school: We were picking out senior projects, so I chose to write, record, produce, and mix my own rock EP against everyone's advice that "it was too much". I tracked everything in a drywall room with crashy recording software (shoutout to Mixcraft 4), the cheapest mic money could buy, and pure determination. All things considered, it turned out alright, but there are very few copies of that disc out there so good luck finding those tracks. It was cool to finish, but it felt like getting a 5% on a test, and I started to spend a lot of time learning everything I could about singing, production, musicality, mixing, and what I actually wanted to do with all of it.

Now, I'm finally closing The Gap to the music I know I'm capable of, and I'm stoked to start releasing my music independently from the start. My musical style draws inspiration from tons of sources: Taylor and Ed for their catchy brilliance, REZZ and Glitch Mob for incredible electronic sound design, Avicii and Mac Miller for the vibes, and Mike Shinoda for basically his entire musical catalog. I can't wait to share these productions with everyone when they're ready, it's taking some serious time but I want the final tracks to be worth it

But at the end of the day, music is boring without people to sing at! Keep an eye out for demos and behind-the-scenes clips on Instagram, watch (and join!) beat battles and feedback streams on Twitch, and keep an ear out for future resources like Getting Started guides, sample packs, and songwriting tutorials

Thanks for stopping by, hope to meet you at a show someday! 🎵
